This policy explains what information passes through NickStyler (nickstyler.com), why, and how long it stays. It covers the nickname styler, the shared nickname lists and the rest of the website. NickStyler has no user accounts and does not ask for your name, email address or phone number to use the tool.
When you style a name
The styler runs on our server. When you press Generate, the text you typed is sent to it so it can build the styled versions. To do that the server also asks two outside services for data about that name: a name database that supplies the nicknames other visitors have shared, and a symbol service that supplies matching emoji and kaomoji. A translation service may be used to find emoji that fit the meaning of the name.
- What we keep: the name itself and a daily count of how many times it was styled. We use these counts to show popular names and to decide which guides to write. They are not linked to you.
- Cached results: the styled data for a name is stored on the server for up to three days so the next visitor gets it faster, then deleted automatically.
- Weekly name demand: once a day, a list of names that were styled — with totals only, never IP addresses or anything that identifies a person — may be shared with the team’s internal planning tool. Names that look like phone numbers, email addresses or web links are never recorded.
- Your IP address: it is used while your request is handled, to issue a short-lived request token and to limit abuse. The name database service may receive it together with a request so it can block spam.
When you share a nickname or vote
A nickname you submit is published under the name it was created for and can be seen and copied by anyone. Do not include personal details in it. Submissions are stored by the name database service, which also records the IP address the submission came from to prevent spam. Likes, dislikes, boy/girl votes and copies are counted without an account; the counters we keep on our own server hold the nickname and a daily total, not who clicked.
The “Was this page helpful?” buttons store a running total on the page. To stop the same visitor voting over and over, a one-way hash of your IP address and the page is held for 24 hours and then deleted.
Stored in your browser
- Your light or dark colour choice (local storage).
- A request token for the styler that expires within an hour (session storage).
- A marker that you already voted for a name or nickname, so the vote buttons behave correctly (local storage).
You can clear these at any time from your browser settings. Cookies set by advertising and security services are described in the cookie policy.
Service providers
- Cloudflare delivers and protects the website; it processes connection data such as IP addresses to block attacks.
- Google AdSense may show ads on some pages and can use cookies for that under Google’s own policies.
- Name database, symbol and translation services described above receive the names you style.
Children
NickStyler is meant for a general audience and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Many games we write about set their own minimum age; please follow it.
Your choices
You can ask us to remove a nickname you shared, or ask what is held about a name, by writing to the address on our contact page with the nickname and the name it was shared under. Because we do not have accounts, we cannot link data to a person, so please include enough detail for us to find the entry.
Changes to this policy
We update this page whenever the tool or the services behind it change what happens to your information. The date below shows the latest change.
