NickStyler works by replacing each letter of your name with a different Unicode character that looks like a styled version of it. Nothing is drawn with a special font: bold 𝐍 is the character U+1D40D, a separate code point from the plain N (U+004E). Because the result is ordinary text, you can copy it into a game such as Free Fire or PUBG Mobile, an Instagram profile or a chat, and it looks the same wherever the reader’s device has a font for those characters.
Unicode letters, not fonts
A font changes how the same characters are drawn, and that choice stays on your own screen. A letter set swaps the characters themselves. Here is the letter N in fourteen of the styler’s sets, with the real character behind each one, read from Unicode data on 13 September 2026:
| Style | N | Code point | Unicode character name | Unicode block | UTF-16 units |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bold | U+1D40D | Mathematical Bold Capital N | Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols | 2 | |
| Bold italic | U+1D4DD | Mathematical Bold Script Capital N | Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols | 2 | |
| Classic | U+1D511 | Mathematical Fraktur Capital N | Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols | 2 | |
| Double letters | U+2115 | Double-struck Capital N | Letterlike Symbols | 1 | |
| Thin letters | U+1D67D | Mathematical Monospace Capital N | Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols | 2 | |
| Small caps | U+0274 | Latin Letter Small Capital N | IPA Extensions | 1 | |
| Circle | U+24C3 | Circled Latin Capital Letter N | Enclosed Alphanumerics | 1 | |
| Square | U+1F17D | Negative Squared Latin Capital Letter N | Enclosed Alphanumeric Supplement | 2 | |
| Wide font | U+FF2E | Fullwidth Latin Capital Letter N | Halfwidth And Fullwidth Forms | 1 | |
| Currency | U+20A6 | Naira Sign | Currency Symbols | 1 | |
| Japan | U+51E0 | Cjk Unified Ideograph-51e0 | CJK Unified Ideographs | 1 | |
| Unicode | U+041D | Cyrillic Capital Letter En | Cyrillic | 1 | |
| Cute letters | U+AA80 | Tai Viet Letter Low Ko | Tai Viet | 1 | |
| Fat letters | U+144E | Canadian Syllabics Ti | Unified Canadian Aboriginal Syllabics | 1 |
Some sets are genuine styled letters made for mathematics (bold, script, fraktur), some are letters from other writing systems that happen to look Latin — Cyrillic Н, the Chinese character 几, a Tai Viet letter — and some are symbols such as the naira sign ₦. That mix explains everything below: why length changes, why some styles fold back to plain text, and why some show as boxes. The complete comparison is in the nickname font style guide.
What happens when you press Generate
- The name you typed is sent to the NickStyler server.
- The server writes the name in more than 100 letter sets and decoration templates, grouped into tabs such as Recommended, Free Fire, BGMI and PUBG, and hearts.
- It adds matching emoji, kaomoji and symbols, and nicknames other visitors chose to share for that name.
- The result is cached on the server for up to three days, and the page address gets a link such as
#name-style=nickso you can share it. - Tapping a card copies its text to your clipboard; nothing is installed and no account is needed.
What is kept and for how long is set out in the privacy policy.
Why styled text shows boxes (tofu)

An empty box — often called “tofu” — means the reader’s device received the character but has no font that can draw it. The name is not broken and copying it again won’t help. The newer a character is in Unicode, the more likely an older phone lacks it:
| Character | Code point | Unicode block | Added in |
|---|---|---|---|
| U+2605 | Miscellaneous Symbols | Unicode 1.1 | |
| U+30C4 | Katakana | Unicode 1.1 | |
| U+1D00 | Phonetic Extensions | Unicode 4.0 | |
| U+1D4DD | Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols | Unicode 3.1 | |
| U+A9C1 | Javanese | Unicode 5.2 | |
| U+131A9 | Egyptian Hieroglyphs | Unicode 5.2 | |
| U+AA96 | Tai Viet | Unicode 5.2 | |
| U+1FAF6 | Symbols And Pictographs Extended A | Unicode 14.0 | |
| U+1FABD | Symbols And Pictographs Extended A | Unicode 15.0 | |
| U+169B9 | Bamum Supplement | Unicode 6.0 |
Apps and games can add a second cause: some draw names with a font bundled inside the app, which may cover fewer characters than your phone’s system fonts. That is why a style can look perfect in the rename box and appear as boxes to other players. Game-specific advice is in the Free Fire and BGMI guides.
Why styled letters can turn plain: NFKC
Unicode defines many styled letters as “compatibility” versions of ordinary ones. A process called NFKC normalization, used by some apps when they save or search names, replaces them with the ordinary letter. Letters borrowed from other scripts are not compatibility characters, so they stay. Tested with ICU 73.2 on 13 September 2026:
| Style | Styled | After NFKC | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bold | Nick | Changed | |
| Small caps | ɴɪᴄᴋ | Unchanged | |
| Wide font | Nick | Changed | |
| Circle | Nick | Changed | |
| Japan | 几丨匚Ҝ | Unchanged |
Blank characters behave the same way — the no-break space becomes a normal space — which is covered in the nickname space style guide. Symbols that sit around a name, and why emoji cost more length than symbols, are in the nickname symbols guide, and mood names such as king, queen and boss are collected in attitude nickname styles.
Where each platform allows styled names

Who maintains the tool and how tests are done

NickStyler is maintained by the NickStyler Editorial Team. Guides are drafted with AI assistance and reviewed by the site owner in an editorial queue. Before a page goes live, every character in its tables is measured (Unicode block, UTF-16 length, NFKC result), the page is opened at phone and desktop width, the styler is run and a result copied, and any platform rule is taken from that platform’s own help page with the date it was checked. Symbol lists are filtered for offensive words, weapons, hidden direction-control characters and religious symbols used as decoration. The full process is in the editorial policy, and changes to the tool are listed in the changelog.
Characters the styler works with
Single symbols from different Unicode blocks
Each is one character; tap to copy and paste it next to a name.
Decorations built from several characters
Combinations the styler uses as frames.
Emoji, which travel as pictures
Emoji are Unicode characters too, drawn by a colour emoji font.
Kaomoji, built from many scripts at once
A single face can mix Japanese, Thai, Greek and Latin characters.
How NickStyler works: FAQ
Is NickStyler free and safe to use?
Yes, it is free and needs no account, app or password. It only produces text for you to copy; it never asks for a game or social media login.
Does NickStyler store the name I type?
The name is sent to the server to build the styles. The site keeps the name with a daily count of how often it was styled, not linked to you, and caches the styled result for up to three days. Nicknames you choose to share are public. Details are in the privacy policy.
Why does a style work in one app and not another?
Each app decides which characters it accepts, whether it normalizes text, and which fonts it uses to draw names. The same copied text can therefore be accepted, flattened or shown as boxes depending on where you paste it.
Can a styled name be read by screen readers?
Often poorly. Screen readers read the underlying characters, so a styled name may be spelled out, announced as mathematical symbols or skipped. Keep a plain version of your name somewhere on your profile.
